Should I go to Makeup School to become a Bridal makeup artist?
Jul 29, 2009 by student | Posted in Makeup
Promising now I'm a university college student and I realize that my real passion is makeup artistry. I've had a lot of experience applying makeup on friends and myself and have watched tons of video tutorials over the years as well as cool a vast cosmetics collection. To become a professional makeup artist, is it best to attend a school and receive a certificate? I'm thought of attending Empire Academy of Makeup in Costa Mesa on the side. The site looks pretty good http://www.empireacademy.com/about/. Can someone with observation give me some advice on whether school is good and how to get on the path of being a pro makeup artist?
i have no indicator hint being that im only 13 but that does sound like a really interesting job

Air Force Academy Questions?
Jul 29, 2009 by hhh | Posted in Military
OK... So I be sure that there is no way I can get into the Air Force Academy by my 'ranks'. I have about a 3.0 GPA and a 1200 SAT score. Tons of extra curriculars, but none of that is good enough to get me into the school.
So, I was cogitative of enlisting in the Air National Guard (something my father did, and I was planning on doing anyways) and do the soft-book program... where you go to prime between your junior and senior year and then you do Drills once a month while you finish your senior year.
If I do that, and keep my grades up, is it achievable for me to get a commander's endorsement and appointed a place in the school while I'm a senior? (through the LEAD program)
According to the Admissions website, only about 45 slots are filled each year out of an within reach 85 for Active duty and 85 for Reserves/Guard. So it seems rather non-competitive. Am I wrong?
Also... if you go this road... what are the requirements school-wise to get in? I read somewhere that you needed a 2.7 GPA and around an 1100 SAT score. Is this true?
Also... Can you get a express appointment to the academy? Or if you go this route do you have to go to the Prep School first?
Thank you so much in advance for answering these questions.

Getting a nail tech license without proper schooling?
Jul 28, 2009 by leang | Posted in Other - Beauty & Style
I've been hearing from trustworthy nail techs that you can purchase a nail license without having to go to a registered beauty academy but I find it hard to confidence in. I've been "training" for a month with a nail salon and I've done pedicures on customers which is completely criminal! They expect me to get my license in a few weeks which is unheard of to me because along with training there is also education and knowledge that comes with it and no one has been truly teaching me. I'm scholarship by watching and yet they're forcing me to work on clients and to get my license when I know I'm not ready. I've found a great school that will actually coach but I've heard before buying a license they would test your skills but what I would like to know is it actually possible to attain a license without proof of background knowledge?

Walter Williams on Naval Academy Admissions
, Goes further by revealing that the Naval Academy offers remedial keep from for wicked applicants. But it’s worse than it sounds :
“Many unspeakable students are admitted to the Naval Academy through remedial training at the Naval Academy Fundamental School (NAPS) in Newport, R.I., which is a one-year column-indirect school. Finishing the year with a 2.0 GPA, a C typically, almost guarantees entr to the academy. A C middling for remedial vocation is nothing to inscribe national about. Again, when students don’t designate the 2.0 GPA aim, the goal is renegotiated spiralling. Minority applicants with SAT scores down to the 300s and with Cs and Ds grades (and no selective superintendence or athletics) are also admitted after a remedial year at the Naval Academy Rudimentary before School.
“Bruce Fleming, an English professor at the academy for 22 years, teaches a remedial English elegance and finds that in his rise 2009 stratum, most of NAPS’s students net Cs and Ds and many are on probation. About seven years ago Professor Fleming was on the admissions live, where the conventional instruction is not to notation anything down because ‘everything is ‘FOI’qualified’ — explanation it can be demanded under the Impertinence of Report Act. Such an instruction highlights the dishonesty of hurry preferences. The dishonesty doesn’t stay there. The academy will go to close lengths to commission abominable students. When Professor Fleming charged a angry swat with plagiary, he was not duly advised of the hearing and afterwards the evaluator’s break through assemblage found him not wrong. Honor violations by baleful students are predominantly ‘remediated.’”
Needless to say, such practices calumniate all dastardly students, even those admitted based on grades and scores and not fell color. But that’s the actuality of lowered standards. Unless one wears a dispose of around his neck that lists his grades and scores, he will be considered an “affirmative remedy” admittee if he’s malignant.
So this is the image that I saw all throughout my childhood at the Academy of Danse in Napa where I spent many an hour. I thought it would be fun for us to have new shirts for the reunion. This one has the year 2011.
