Why do I have to take the GRE to get into a good well-known graduate school?
Jul 29, 2009 by Zargotelc the Elitist | Posted in Higher Education (University +)
I'm looking into getting into a honourable graduate program so I looked at several schools and they all require or recommend a GRE. Why is this? The GRE is just a basic math and English check-up. I took that test before. It's called the SAT. We all took it. Why do I have to take the SAT again to go to a good graduate program? Shouldn't my exemplary grades and letters of prompting be enough?
We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be a great student, and we're talking about GRE's. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about GRE's, not graduate primary, not graduate school, but we're talking about GRE's! Not the post-secondary education that I go out there and study so hard for, but we're talking about GRE's man. How silly is that?
Now I recognize that I'm supposed to study hard and all that but I'm not shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I honourably do but we're talking about GRE's. We're talking about GRE's, man. We're talking about GRE's. We're talking about GRE's. We're not talking about graduate school. We're talking about GRE's. When you come to seminary, and you see me study, you've seen me study right, you've seen me give everything I've got, but we're talking about GRE's right now. Hey I hear you, it's funny to me too, hey it's out-of-the-way to me too but we're talking about GRE's man, we're not even talking about graduate school, when it actually matters, we're talking about GRE's ... How the hell can I reap myself better by taking the GRE?
Because it's standardized. You're fetching it for the same reason you had to take the SAT to get into a good college.
They can compare your grades on the GRE to everyone elses. When you're comparing grades you got in college, those aren't standardized, are they? Some professors curve, some don't. Some professors coach this in this class and others don't even though it's the same subject. If they just took your SAT scores from 4 years ago then that doesn't tell them you still have a grasp of algebra or that your vocabulary has increased.
If you shortage to get into a good grad school and you have great grades and good letters of recommendation then you shouldn't have to distress about not getting a great score on the GRE.
You are not taking it to make yourself better, you are taking it so you can show grad schools that you have a better adeptness with of the material than a certain percentage of students. When you think about it, without the GRE, what happens if someone who has a 4.0 GPA takes the GRE and gets a superlative score, how is the college going to tell them apart from that person that has a 4.0 GPA, but gets a 600 on the GRE? You wouldn't need to accept someone with a 4.0 GPA with a 600 GRE score would you? You would obviously pick that person with a 4.0 and a perfect GRE because that personally has a better chance of making it through grad school.
Just take it like all the rest of us had to or don't go to grad Lyceum.

Women if you were in an argument.....?

If you were in a squabble with your husband or boyfriend and all he did was hold your hand and look lovingly at you would that quell your anger.
I had a teacher when i was in secondary denomination that gave this advice to an all boy class (it was a mixed gender school but the top boys and girls were split)
Will this affect my overall college resume? (AP classes)?

Currently prevailing into a public high school, freshmen year. I'm enrolled to take all the AP classes available freshmen year besides the math AP no doubt. This means I'll be taking Algebra. I regret not jumping on the chance when it was available to move up, so I was wondering how this would affect my take up again. I would love to know if you think it would be possible in the future to jump a course ahead into an AP math procedure with help from outside tutoring (such as Sullivan and other "agencies")?
I also wanted to know how much higher a furtively high school would boost me. My parents are open on this concept, but I will need to figure something out if I want to enroll for next year. We only have God-fearing affiliated private high schools around here, while my family isn't highly religious, this is an open option. Would it give me a boost to fulfil watch over on of these schools, or stay where I am? We live in the Midwest, we live in a middle class area (with a typical American mean class high school), but we are upper-middle to upper class. I want the best chances for my function-secondary college career. Also, will you be declined from religious private institutions if you are not openly religious (church customary)?
University seems so complicated! I don't understand what to do! Please help?

I'm a minuscule young to be worrying about university but I am. I have been looking at some universities online line and I don't know what some of the things written on the website hope.
I just have a few questions and I would be grateful if you could answer.
It would helpful if you are secondary school teacher or a student who has experienced what i am prevalent through.
I am starting my fifth year at one of the top grammar schools in N. Ireland and I am studying English and English Literature, Maths and Additional Maths, R.E, French, Traitorous-Award Science, H.E and I.C.T.
I would like do become a doctor or at least work in medicine. Although I am open to having a job centered around maths. I have sat a GSCE a year break of dawn and expected to well in them.
I plan to do Chemistry, Biology, Maths and possibly French for A- Level.
Do you think I would be masterly to study medicine?
How long would I have to spend in University?
What kind of graduate would I be - undergraduate or postgraduate?
Please could you add any other practical information to your answer!
Thank you in advance!!!

no more "creationism" or "intelligent design" - we're number 27 after basically third world nations in terms of our secondary schools. Why?
