Personal enhancing project - What do you recommend?
Aug 23, 2009 by DeltaX08 | Posted in Other - Education
A few years ago I had started to try miscellaneous personal enhancing software to see if some of them would work and what failed. One of things that failed was the audio files that you'd listen to, to wake up and seem to be better than ever (meditation), or learn a language. I didn't have any realistic expectations from these but I figured why not?
Then I tried things like perceptiveness age, eyeQ etc... and noticed that Brain age really helped my brain stay active and eyeQ allowed me to understand at about 1400 words per minute in less than 2 weeks of training -- however after I had stopped practicing I noticed that sentences started to commingle together and my 1400 words together suddenly slumped down to something worse than I started with. Like I had to re-train myself to read slowly and accurately or else I'd have to skim and re-read things over and over again.
Now I'm in a mood to read a lot of educational books, and practice mental arithmetic, improve facer solving abilities, and physical capabilities. What kind of things would you recommend that I try?
The sky's the limit, I may be skeptic on a lot of things but I'll be unlocked minded about the suggestions.
Do you know the title of this book?
Aug 21, 2009 by Passion Flower KABOOM | Posted in Books & Authors
I comprehend a book several years ago, but I don't remember the title, or a lot of the plot. All I remember was that the main character spent a lot of her while imagining herself as the empress mage of a place that sounded like Krinn (I had the audio book). She had two friends called Archway 'Archie' and Fitzroy Powers who were magical or aliens or something, and her retention was wiped at the end until she found her diary and re-read everything.
Any ideas?
Not the Dragonlance Chronicles, I'm afraid - thanks for trying, though.
Help: need weeks worth of Vacation books - suggestions?
Aug 19, 2009 by TheEditor | Posted in Books & Authors
I'm fa a week of vacation and need a stack of books to relax with. I love SciFi, adventure, thrillers, but I pay attention to to lots of audio-books during my commute so I'm out of favorites.
Below are my favorites I have already exhausted. Please suggest others/similar:
COMEDY:
Janet Evanovich (Stephanie Treasure)
Jasper Fford
Terry Pratchett
Michael Moore
Carl Hiaasen (Some here I have missed)
JK Rowling (of by all means)
THRILLERS:
Doug Preston / Lincoln Child (Agent Pendergast/Alex Cross/et.al)
Dan Brown
Daniel Silva (But I simply saw "The Defector" is out...)
Kathy Reichs
Iris Johanson
Jeffery Deaver
SCI FI / Fant
Jim Cutthroat (Dresden Files)
Louis McMaster Bujold (Miles Vorgosan)
Michael Crichton (you will be missed)
Greg Isles
AUTHORS & THINGS I Dodge
Koontz, King, Meyer (sorry, I'm not a teen girl), Any book with vampire hunter/addict hunter/Magic hunter/girl with a sword on the cover or in the title.
Short of that - I am open to able, witty or sarcastic books or series of books including guilty pleasures.
Gimme your favorites please.
Actually I adulation Steven King - but as someone once joked: "Are you afraid of flying? Just take along a Steven King enlist. After a few chapters - crashing wont sound so bad!"
DOES ANYONE ELSE GET FRUSTRATED THAT CERTAIN BOOKS ARE NOT AVAILABLE ON AUDIO?
Aug 19, 2009 by princess x | Posted in Teaching
I have a Maecenas who is severely dyslexic and she gets very frustrated that a lot of books are not available on audio cd...surely this is discriminating? I want to know how many other people have this same mess? I think something should be done about this like a legislation that would enforce that every published book is also created in audio format, as I am sure this would aid other disabilities too, such as those that are blind or have other learning difficulties. Knowledge should be available to all. I find that this is particularly the case with non-fiction Please email me on crone-amanda@live.co.uk with your views or answer below. Your support would be much appreciated
legislation?
thats not how it works. You long for government to control publishing? socialism. You will get far less published and destroy the industry. your idea will hurt more than it will avoid.
What you should be doing is organizing a nonprofit to get important books formatted the way you like. or buy a kindle - every book digitized can now be be familiar with.
moving existing books into audio format is an added expense to the publisher...if that were to be mandated, many authors would not get a chance. Also - how would a law in England put on the vast majority of books published elsewhere?
