Pages fallen out of Twilight book - faulty book - how to get a replacement with no receipt?
Jul 23, 2009 by Becky | Posted in Books & Authors
Hi - I bought Twilight, deliver assign to it once & before I was even finished reading it the pages started falling out of the the book (paperback). I don't have the receipt as it literally blew away in the end up. I bought it from WH Smith. Is there any way I can get a replacement book, as surely it is faulty as pages shouldn't just fall out? Would WH Smith unpleasantness it for me without a receipt? Or do I need to contact the publishers to request a replacement? I know that I'll definately want to understand it again! Thanks for your help, Becca.
I have just read this: "Stores often try the "no refund or put in an appearance again without a receipt" line. But where an item fails, shops do not have the right to demand a receipt. A ascription card slip or statement... are legally enough."
So hopefully, if I take my bank statement and the defective book, this should be enough. Fingers crossed.
You got a photocopy with insufficient glue, and bookstores and publishers will replace those since it is a printing problem.
Take it back to the store and show them the problem, and ask them if they can take over from it. Let them know that other books in the batch might have a similar flaw and need to be checked.
Politely ask for the manager. If you're deferential through the whole process and say thank you a lot, they'll definitely want to help you!

No way, remorseful.
It's already read, and there's no receipt.
Maybe by any chance you can take it to the management of the store and get some attitude towards them, but I really doubt that can assistants. SORRY! (:

Without a takings i don't think they would exchange it sorry. Maybe try going to the book store and reading in there the pages that flew out. Just now sit down in a book aile no one normally goes in and read.

no arrival income means no proof you even bought the book. Nobody is going to replace anything at that point. If you could get a new copy anyone could walk into a Euphemistic pre-owned book store by a beat up copy and do the same thing.
What next, you'll take your car to Detroit when it breaks down?

Shhhh.... dont let something be known anyone, but I have a solution for you ! :o))
You go back to the shop and buy another of the same book (make sure before buying it that this one definately wont fall separate, cus you wont get another chance to return it with this technique)..... keep your receipt this time and then return the faulty book for a refund using the new proof of purchase.
Simples !!
Hope that helps.

If you purchased the book via esteem card or debit card your credit card company or bank may be able to provide you with a likeness of the transction recipt or you would at least have documentation of the amount of the purchase. If you paid cash you are likely out of luck.
If you allowed the book to wait in a hot car, outside just laying in the sun, or got it wet then that will cause the glue to fail. It is not a defect simply misuse in which cause it is your responsilbility. If you didn't do this then it is a defect and does occasionally happen and you shouldn't have any trouble getting it replaced

PS to all of the above: if WH Smith won't hands, the publisher might well want to do so, yes.
