What happened to everything? Thousands upon thousands or German soldiers, not to citation the foreign fighters in the German Army surrender leaving HUGE stockpiles of Weapons, Equipment, and Helmets. But what happened to it all? Where is it? Do the Russians still have measureless warehouses full of rifles, helmets, belts, and uniform? Do we? Can anyone tell me?
I know my grandfather stashed stuff at his well-informed in before surrendering to the Allies so he kept his stuff, but he said the Americans and British made giant piles of Rifles,SMG, MGs, Helmets, Belts and so on, but he said he has no suggestion what they did with it.
Conquer swords into ploughshares
These things were either melted down for their metal content, reconditioned for service elsewhere or otherwise destroyed.
There was a heavy market for ex-army stuff after the war when people were too poor to buy ordinary clothing.
You can read a lot of biographies that recount you about kids going to schools in ex-army clothing and boots - these are genuine.
What would be the point in storing it?
Some of the rubbish still survives. Check out ebay.

they all things considered melted it down or dismantled them to get raw materials to make new things. they wouldn't have anymore of them now as it is the 21st century and a mg42 isn't gonna suit up against a M242.......or a 40 yr old helmet......

I came across a lot of former German weapons in South East Asia many years ago - the locals said when the French returned after WWII they brought it with them; I in point of fact bought a luger for pocket money. A lot of the bombs and ammunition were dumped off the north west littoral of scotland - and was detonating and wrecking fishing nets up to the 1970's. In holland many of the German guns were melted down to lift church bells - a token as the Germans had seized bells to make guns... I also positive the MG-42 is still in service today in some army's.

Scrapped for the most part. Some appurtenances via Czechoslovakia made its way to Israel and later to the Syrian's from the same source. Small batches of weapons showed up from on occasion to time in Africa and some even as far as Vietnam but the vast bulk of it was scapped.

Unflinching a vast portion were recycled. Though Germany would be allowed to retain a portion to safeguard itself. If you look up Mitchel's Mausers you can still be relevant the K98,Luger and Russian guns. Have my fair share of collectables. Alot are probably in private collections or in Auction houses. Ourselves I would not cough up any of my Belongings at the end of a war.
